The Media

Amongst the ten principles of advertising, I feel that techniques of persuasion is the one i most readily identify with. Television is something that people in America do quite often and is a perfect time to advertise. We see these techniques of persuasion all of the time. Woman are used to advertise just about any and everything, funny jingles are played that stick in your head, and there are always those commercials that get played over and over again.

Of all the persuation techniques, I can say that the one I can identify with the most is Humor. When I see an advertisment that makes me laugh, I am more prone to buy. When you advertise by using humor, it seems like there is less pressure to buy. I personally feel that businesses should use humor more often for advertisment. Businesses should take advantage of the fact that everyone loves laughter and humor.

The media focuses a lot on appearence. We see the commercials everyday, "How would you like to drop 10 pounds?" For almost every advertisment involving people, the models will be good looking to 90% of the viewers. Models are normally very skinny if its a girl or a muscular guy. The media focus's on being skinny way too much for women. That is why a lot of girls are so stuck on losing weight because they want to look like the flawless females that the media advertises. It also doesn't help the situation out either when celebs are bashed by the media the instant they put on a little weight.
